Freddie Nikulásson

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

My good friend Mr. Nikulásson is working hard on a stencil of his alter ego,
which apparently looks somewhat like a strung out amputated Mexican with a
Freddie Mercury twist. He asked for my assistance and being eager to see how
this nice fellow would pan out I helped him speed up the process. The location
will be the key factor in this one.

Slab in the face

About a month ago I was studying Peter Biľak’s Irma, a geometrical slab serif
and extremely versatile typeface. This was done for a course at school where
everybody was assigned to create their own typeface based on their research
work. My take on this was to create capital-only slab serif typeface but much
heavier than Irma so the working title soon became Coleman after my dear
friend Ronnie “Nothing to it but to do it” Coleman. Mainly and only because
the resemblance was undeniable, both bold heavyweighters.

Here you can see the final outcome, The New Black typeface dressed to the
nines along with some rough sketches.

The Savannah

I’m more fond of the cat creature than it’s rival, the dog. I admit I wouldn’t
hate to own a huge badass dog to guard my apartment and eat the fingers of
some street hoodlums for breakfast, or for the times that some unwelcome
wankers crash my party and refuse to listen to words of reason. At that point
I could introduce them to my dog which would immediately chew on their faces
or feast on their danglers, or both. This would be, without a doubt, a nifty party
trick which I could post on youtube. Sounds like a win/win situation for every-
one. But sadly for the youtubers and me I think this will never become. There
are too many psycho dogs out there which makes my unable to trust these
creatures. Gnawing their owner’s face off during nights without warning, or
going for the groin, both sounding pretty bad. This is simply something I don’t
want to waste my time participating in. I have enough on my plate without
adding the risk of waking up by my own rabid dog remaking the motion picture
Face Off. My parents own a cat which has a fluffy tail and has a thing for night
prowling and power napping. I miss him and in my quest after my own cat I’ve
found the perfect one. The 30 lbs. Savannah cat. I’m getting me one of those
for sure sooner or later.

Quite a charmer.

Picture that my cat took of us powernapping.
